Governor Irungu Kang’ata has said it was time leadership at the national and the county governments strategized on ways to improve the citizens standard of living.
He said there was a need for policies that help eradicate poverty and improve the livelihoods of Kenyans as the country celebrated its 60 anniversary since independence.
Addressing Murang’a residents during the Jamhuri Celebration atr Rurie grounds in Kiria ini, Mathioya, Kang’ata observed that despite the country attaining independence 60 years ago, majority of Kenyans are languishing in abject poverty.
“Time has come for leadership in this country to develop and implement various programmes meant to uplift the livelihoods of vulnerable citizens,” said the governor.
He cited Asians countries of South Korea and Singapore that gained their independence after Kenya, but have been transformed into the first world.
“It’s pathetic that a large population cannot afford basic needs among them paying for their NHIF cards.
The leadership of this country should employ parameters that will end the sufferings the locals are going through,” said the governor.
In Murang’a county, he has initiated programmes that have improved the standards.
“We have a health programme dubbed Kang’ata care which has registered more than 40, 000 residents to access quality health care for free,’ he explained.
