Waiguru in community empowerment programme

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Thursday distributed tents and chairs to self-help groups as part of the county’s social economic empowerment program.The items, distributed in Njuki-ini ward in Gichugu Constituency, included seven 100 sitter tents and 850 plastic chairs.The governor said that the tents and chairs will be of great help to members since members will use them whenever they have events thus saving them money that could have been used in hiring. They will also generate income from them by hiring them out.While distributing the items in Kimweas Polytechnic grounds, Waiguru added that to empower the county residents, her administration had initiated a County Empowerment and Development Fund that will offer support to the vulnerable, PWDs, women, youth and other common interest groups. At the same time, she distributed water pipes for Kianduru Water Project that will enhance the distribution of water to 1,200 members drawn from Gituba, Kiangoro, Gaciongo, Kiriko, Muthigiini, Cieni, Kabugu, Muburi, Mbiri, Kegwa and Kiaragana villages.  She termed the initiative as part of an elaborate plan to increase access to water for domestic and irrigation use in Kirinyaga, noting that more than 70 water projects have been undertaken by her administration across the county.On Wednesday, the Governor also distributed water pipes to benefit more than 7,500 members of Mbeti B and Kiangima Water projects in Inooi Ward, Kirinyaga Central.
