It was a dream come true for Karurumo village residents in Kanyenya ini to have access to a dispensary after a 30 years wait.
The journey has been concluded after a project started through fund raising accomplished by Murang’a County Government.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata commissioned Karurumo dispensary ending the challenges the locals have been going through for decades while taking the sick for treatment.
Thirty years ago, the residents financed construction of a polytechnic due to lack of resources after the politicians ignored it.
There were celebrations as the residents and mostly women recounted the suffering they have gone through coupled with the poor road network they were expecting and taking the sick to hospital.
Nancy Wanjiru Wanyoike said they have gone through hell with those living in Kianjuru village suffering due to neglect by the former leadership.

” Mothers have suffered the brunt of giving birth along the way to Kangema and Murang’a hospitals , but today it is a sign of relief with the opening of the dispensary,” said Mrs Wanyoike.
Mzee Peter Gwandaru said it has been a journey as the resources got replenished and the project abandoned.
Mr Gwandaru said along the way the locals changed and considered converting the project to a dispensary for the interest of the community.
“In 2012, the locals approached Kangema NG CDF and the late MP Titus Ngahu proposed we ignore the old building and start a new one, ” said Gwandaru.
After Ngahu lost, Kangema parliamentary slot the dispensary project stalled as the county government ignored it until Kanyenya ini MCA Grace Nduta picked it up, recounted Gwandaru.
Ms Nduta said the locals have battled with myriad challenges surrounding health, water and roads which she pledged will be attended to for the interest of the locals.

Kanga’ata said Karurumo health project is one of the old projects that the locals called for commissioning to save them branded white elephants.
” The MCAs have a kitty for community projects and Karurumo is one of them that have been actualised and the county government has posted enough health workers,” said the governor.
Karurumo is along the Aberdare slopes with locals involved in plucking of green leaf for survival.
