Concerns over the lack of police vehicles in Kigumo, Murang’a have been raised in presence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In the presence of Deputy President, Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro said it was a pity that the entire constituency lacks operational security vehicles to help tame insecurity.

Munyoro said police duties have been compromised due immobility of the security teams.

“There are incidents where the bodies have remained at the scenes of crime for hours awaiting collection by the police as the law demands,” said Munyoro adding that the Police Inspector General Japeth Koome was aware of the problems.

A week ago there was an outcry in Kigumo after a body remained at the scene of the accident for hours as the police had to wait for a vehicle from outside Kigumo to transport it to a mortuary.

Munyoro pleaded with the deputy president to fast-track assigning at least three vehicles to Kigumo following the increased crime rate among them a robbery at Mununga branch of Unaitas Sacco two weeks ago.

He also accused the National Police Service (NPS) of being gender insensitive for only posting women police commanders in Murang’a County.

“ There are seven female officers and only two males manning the sub-counties police divisions is a gender concern,” said Munyoro calling for a balance.

But Rigathi defended the female police officers saying they are trained to handle the situation.

“ Some are better than men as they both went to Kiganjo police training college for professional courses,” said Munyoro.

At the same time,  the MP regretted the delayed completion of the Kigumo sub-county hospital to end the congestion of patients at Maragua and Murang’a hospitals.

“ The facility was due to be opened in April but lack of funds the function has been postponed to an unknown date. Deputy President comes to the rescue of Kigumo people,” pleaded Munyoro.
