Race for Murang’a Woman representative has attracted former MCA Catherine Wairimu Mugo from Kandara who is eying the seat on a UDA ticket.
The respectable sociologist and a lawyer by profession has been on the ground working with the community leaders as well as mobilizing the youth to register as voters to enable them participate in the August 9 election.
In Murang’a County, IEBC targets to register 115,000 new voters during the second enhancement registration of voters exercise.
Mugo who hails from Kandara constituency between 2013 and 2017 she was in the powerful Speakers Panel and has expressed interest to be the second woman representative after Sabina Wanjiru Chege who has declared interest for Governorship.
The former nominated MCA has been actively involved in the interests of the Elderly and participated in the task force that brought forth the Elderly’s Fund .
She promises to ensure every qualified Muranga elderly person ( woman/man) gets their fair share of the monthly Government stipend, once elected as a Woman Rep.
The leader has been engaging men ,women and the youth in counseling and Stress Management courses and Training.
Most households find themselves with a member or two engaged in alcoholism and Drugs, which leads to depression and low productivity.
“ I believe given a chance to serve in the position of Woman Representative this can be curbed completely,” she said.
The promise
She said if elected as Murang’a Woman Representative ,she will work to fully engage the youth in income generating activities through partnerships with like minded people/institutions to start a few cottage industries.
“ The youth in their productive age should be assisted to venture in the sectors of the economy instead of leaving them wasted,” said Catherine Mugo.
