SportPesa has entered into a pact with Murang’a Sports
Excellence Academy Limited (M-Seal) football club for a three year period.

The Sh30 million partnership will support a soccer
club founded by Lawyer Robert Macharia to uplift sporting standards in the
county to support the talented youth.

The Sportspesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri
signing the partnership with the management of the team said there is a
need for the government to establish pitches around the country to attract
the individuals and investors to come in.

 Tomorrow Mseal will
play Gor Mahia in a friendly match dubbed ‘The Handshake Derby.’

Am impressed that an individual can establish such a
stadium befitting those in the international standard, thus the need for the
government to establish as many football, volleyball and netball
pitches in the country to promote sporting activities,” said  Captain Karauri at privately owned St
Sebastian Park Stadium in Kiharu.

The 26 acres pitch is located along the banks of Sagana
river.

He explained that he was proud that M-Seal is an upcoming
football club and young aspiring to start a sports academy in Murang’a, and the
only one in Kenya with its own private pitch, the St Sebastian
Park.

“SportPesa will support the team for the next three years
with a sponsorship totalling Sh30 million. The sponsorship over the period also
includes supporting the football academy which is set to become a major sports
excellence training institution,” he said.

At the same time, he said, the firm has shifted sponsoring
established clubs and now going to salvage the village clubs.

The grassroot teams, he said,  should be assisted
to have structures  not to follow the established ones.

“ We have teams  with big names and playing in the top
leagues but lack structures, thus players losing morale,” said Karauri.

Mseal Manager John  Peter Wanjii  said  they are happy that the team has one of the renowned KCB club defender
Amalemba,  who was voted the best defender of the year.

“ Despite the hurdles that include lack of finances, the
team has been supported by Mr Macharia, who is deeply involved in nurturing
talents among the youth,” said Wanjii.
