Research: Sabina pleads with scientists to innovate a Covid 19 vaccine

 By The Mountain Journal

Murang’a MP Sabina Chege has challenged Kenya
Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to develop a local vaccine to fight the Covid-19
pandemic.

Chege observed that there are many and
qualified scientists who can come up with a vaccine to fight coronavirus and
stop relying on other countries for help in terms of vaccines.

“As a parliament, we are
much ready to fund such an initiative and have our vaccine. South Africa
already has their vaccine against covid-19 but our country has been used for
trials of new vaccines. This is the time that in Kenya we have our vaccine,”
she observed.

Chege, speaking at Kenol
market in Maragua when she disbursed Sh4 million to secondary students sponsored
through her foundation that caters for learners from the humble background.

At The same time,  the MP lauded a section of MPs who in the
past criticized the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) but changed their minds
and voted for it.

Chege said Bahati MP
Kimani Ngunjiri displayed his courage when he led a section of supporters of
Deputy President Dr William Ruto in voting for the constitutional amendment
Bill, he had been attacking in the past.

She said the BBI Bill
proposes better opportunities for the Mount Kenya region following the huge
population thus the creation of additional areas of representation.

,  hoped there
would be a smooth transition to the referendum saying some critics may put
hurdles to try to frustrate the process.

“We hope there will be
no people who will now start going to court to stop the process as we want to
finish up with the matter for the interest of the country,” she said.

She hit at MPS Ndindi Nyoro
( Kiharu) and Alice Wahome(Kandara)  following their rejection of the
amendment bill yet Murang’a county is among the counties earmarked to benefit from
an additional constituency.
