Nairobi: Kananu deput Governor after after vetting

By The Mountain Journal in Nairobi

Ann Kananu is the deputy governor for Nairobi.

Her swearing put on hold the planned By Election.

The assembly vetted her and approved her and the qualified person for the slot that had been left vacant after exit of Polycap Igathe. He was sworn four hours after he was vetted by the county assembly that found him fit for the position.

In the morning High Court allowed the assembly to proceed with vetting her after it dismissed an
application lodged to block her vetting.

This means, Nairobi County Assembly is free to
vet the candidate who was proposed by the former governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko before he was ousted.

After the exit of Sonko,  speaker of the county assembly Benson Mutura
was sworn as the acting governor for a 60 days period.

The candidates who had lined up to fight for the slot  left by Sonko after his impeachment include the former
Mandera MP  Abdikadir Mohammed.

Haron Kinyua, a highway engineer, is in
the contest being backed by the youth.

Others who had shown interest are   businessperson Agnes
Kagure, former MPs Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti) Margaret Wanjiru( Starehe) under the UDA party.

Former Kiambu Governors
William Kabogo and Ferdindard Waititu  Ndung’u had  shown interest in
Nairobis county politics.
