A major crackdown to subdue criminals masquerading as touts and boda boda operators in Witeithie Division has kicked off.

According to Juja DCC Charles Muriithi, 10 suspects were rounded up at Witeithie Stage early Thursday.

Mr Muriithi said the operation to be spread in other parts of the Division would be carried out on a daily basis until all the suspects involved in lawlessness are arrested and arraigned in court.

The DCC said area ACC Josephat Onchari, Komo Location Snr Chief Muchui Muiruri, local Snr Assistant chief James Nyoike and Witeithie Deputy OCS Martin Murimi will be required to submit daily report regarding the swoop until the area was ‘swept clean’.

“ We are calling on the residents to cooperate with the security agencies  to ensure the criminal elements are brought to book,” said Muriithi.

The administrator gave the names of those arrested and held at Witeithie Police Station as John Karanja, Evans Kariuki, Julius Karanja, Daniel Ngure and John Gathuri.

Others are Lewis Chege, Joseph Mbugua, Patrick Macharia, Antony Wambua and Gabriel Mwangi.

The operation comes in the wake of complaints by members of the public who have fallen prey to criminal activities by marauding thugs masquerading as touts and boda boda operators.

Residents hailed the raid saying it was long overdue pointing fingers at the illegal liquor outlets that had become the breeding ground of criminal activities and hide outs.
