Murang’a County Government has
disbursed Sh26 million to support education of more than 2,000 secondary school
learners.

Governor Mwangi wa Iria said the kitty
will support the needy students through the county government Nyota Zetu
Scholarship programme.

In a function at General Ihura
Stadium, Iria said every year the programme will recruit 1,000 form one
students to facilitate their education, after their parents are found to be
needy.

“This is one of the noble projects to
transform the area as we are duty bound to improve the living standard of our
people through education,” said Iria.

He explained that the county government came
up with the scholarship programme to stop rogue secondary school heads  from taking advantage of the poor families
due to lack of fees.

“Our best should remain in their schools
of choice to ensure they proceed with their education without being sent away
due to school fees balance,” said the Governor.

In national politics, he said he was prepared
to vie for Presidency next year, after serving for two terms.

“ I have all the qualities  to fight for the Presidency  as am the only governor in Central Kenya who won  the 2017 election,” said  Iria.

He will vie for a seat on the Civic Renewal Party (CRP) that he founded two years ago.
