National Union of Post primary Teachers Union (Kuppet) is eying for a new guard
in the branch leadership in the forthcoming elections.
Two
years ago, Kuppet dislodged Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) from the
helm of representing the teachers’ issues, there is expected stiff completion
ahead of the election from the branches to the national.
The
national Officials are present in the counties campaigning to retain their
slots.
In
the national platform, the union started by the fearless Mr Wanyonyi Buteyo
from Bungoma county, several teachers have shown interest to contest for
positions unlike years before.
With the schools opening next week, the campaigns
are conducted through social media
platforms awaiting the physical ones in
staff rooms when the schools are open.
In
Murang’a county, in the election set for January 23, 2021, 6,000 teachers from
the 336 secondary schools will be going to the polls to elect their officials.
In
the slot of the chairman has attracted
three candidates, the incumbent Michael Gachema ( Kambiti), Evanson Macharia
Irungu( Nginda Girls) and Henry Kariuki(
Naaro).
In
executive secretary position Mwangi Mburu is defending his slot battling it
with Dominic Gitau of Karega secondary school in Kigumo Sub County.
In the treasurer’s
position, Daniel Mungai of Mutunguru secondary school in Kigumo is defending
the slot, with competition from Annie Wanjiru (Runyeki in Mathioya) and Bernard
Kamama (Kirogo Boys in Kahuro).
