Ground is set to elect a new Governor for Nairobi to replace Mike Sinko who lost his position after he was rejected by the county assembly.

Sonko replacement is set for February 18, as IEBC has announced the date for the by election, inviting political parties to send names of their nominees.
Nairobi County is presently in the hands of Assembly Speaker Stephen Mutura who will be in charge for 60 days. Several politicians have declared interest to take over Nairobi leadership after The senate found Sonko unfit to hold the office. The MCAs had passed a motion of no confidence with his leadership.

Those perceived to campaign for the slot include former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, the youthful James Karihe who tried the position in 2017. Karihe was to deputise the exiled Miguna Miguna.
