The government is keen to give
Kenyans quality roads and taking action against rogue contractors who divert advance
payment to their personal errands.
Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet
Secretary James Macharia said the government
has instituted measures to pursue rogue contractors who once they get
the first payment abandon the works after they divert payments to settle bank
loans, purchase of lands and posh houses.
“ With the partnership with the Ministry of Interior and National
Coordination the rogue contractors will
be prosecuted for diversion of public
resources” said Macharia.
He spoke at Kiamara in Kangema,
Murang’a during the inspection of the construction of the 540 kilometres Mau
Mau roads passing through the four counties in Mt Kenya region.
The road
that will take two years to
complete will be named after Mau Mau war veterans as promised by President
Uhuru Kenyatta to honour they dedication
and self-sacrifice.
The project starts at Gataka ini
village in Kiambu and ends at Ihururu village in Nyeri county, is among several projects funded by the government to increase connectivity in the country.
“The Sh30 billion project will pass
through counties on the slopes of Aberdare ranges through counties of
Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua and will be a game-changer in the
transport connectivity,” said the CS.
He said Kenol- Sagana- Marwa- Nanyuki- Isiolo is another major project that will connect Northern parts of the country, as it will join with Lapsset Corridor at Isiolo.
