Ngutu farmers get help from Israel to venture in hybrid farming

The partnership between the Israel Government
and Ahadi Kenya Trust will assist 50 farmers in Mathioya sub-county, before the
programme is extended in all parts of Murang’a county.

Unveiling the hybrid vegetable
farming the partnership at Ngutu village, Israel Deputy Envoy  Eyal David  said there was a need to empower the farmers to
help in increased food production.

The envoy said his government has a
long-standing relation with Kenya,  with
100 students sent to Israel  in sponsored
programmes.

“We have recently hosted a delegation
from Kenya that visited the desert in Israel that learnt more in water
harvesting technology,” said Eyal.

 Through the partnership, Eyal donated 25,000
high-quality seedlings to the local farmers as Elijah Kamau an avocado exporter
gave avocado seedlings.

Ahadi Trust Executive Director Dr
Stanley Kamau on his part asked the national and county governments to empower
small scale farmers in food production.

“More resource should be channeled
towards agriculture programmes to improve food production amongst other needs,”
he said.

During the function Toilet African Chief Executive Officer Josphine Wacera pledged to construct 10 toilets  for Ngutu
primary school following plea by local leaders.
