Illicit brewers are back in Chania
river banks making millions of shillings from the sale of the brews.

In the past year, the merchants of
death have been playing hide and seek with the police fearing their images captured by the drones.

 Chania river borders Murang’a
and Gatanga and over the years has been the source of the illicit liquor sold
in the counties of Murang’a, Nairobi and Kiambu.

Last week, through the use of drones
a joint venture between Murang’a County Commissioner’s office and Nacada, 26
suspects were arrested in connection with the involvement of the brew.

Central Regional Coordinator Wilfred
Nyang’wanga  has lauded the police efforts to arrest the culprits behind
the menace, pleading for more community collaboration.

The drones are controlled by experts located at an undisclosed venue who communicate with the police on patrol

 Speaking at Kigio market, one
of the illicit brews hotspot,  the regional coordinator accompanied by
local county commissioner Mohamed Barre  said the equipment have assisted
to reduce the illicit activities along the Chania river banks.

“The drones help in identifying the
dens and the officers on the ground are able to track them,” he said.

He added that sub counties of
Gatanga and Maragua have been identified as the most problematics areas due to
the illicit brews.

 Gangs behind the illicit
brews, hide in the coffee plantations when they spot the police approaching their
hideouts.

“There
is need for more cooperation between the law enforcers and the community to
arrest the situation,” said the regional coordinator.
