Gaturi Politics: Fertile ground for succession politics

 Ground is
set for more candidates to launch their campaigns for Gaturi ward By-Election.

 After Jubilee Party nominated Rosemary
Wakuthii Njine to contest for the slot on December 15 By-Election, Democratic Party
 (DP) has nominated Nelson Kenda.


 In the Jubilee Party nomination that has been
described as a sham and uncoordinated   following late arrival of the ballot papers,
with polling centres registering low turnout.

Esther
Mwihaki Kamau, Joshua Githinji and Samuel Mwai polled 1,720, 1,041 and five
votes respectively.

 The by-election laid bare the political
differences between Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata and Water Irrigation
Principal Secretary Joseph Wairagu.

In the
political contest Governor Mwangi wa Iria Civic Renewal Party (CRP)  will not field a candidate,  and instead, support Wakuthii of Jubilee
Party.

The winner
and a former MCA who represented the ward between 2013 and 2017 polled 1,720
votes.

 John Gakuo a resident of Kaweru market in
Gaturi ward politics told The Mountain Journal that there will be more
independent candidates who were awaiting Jubilee Party to complete its
nomination.

“ There
will be more candidates  as Gaturi ward
is divided into two zones,” said Gakuo.

In the
line up revealed,  one of the candidates
who lost the nomination has sought for sponsorship of  Frontier Alliance  Party.

 A Mr Muchoki 
has received clearance from Governor Alfred Mutua led Maendeleo Chap
Chap ready to contest Gaturi seat.

The
ward  is the home of Mukurwe wa
Nyagathanga the Cradle of the Gikuyu community.
