Three secondary schools in Murang’a have proved their worth after they competed with academic giants in sending the highest number of students to the universities.
Karega, Muthithi and Mukangu day secondary schools in the past 10 years have dominated the top list of the established performers in the national examination in Kigumo and Kahuro sub counties.
In the 2020 KCSE, the three will send over 154 students to the universities after they attained the required entry points.
Karega Secondary School Principal Mr Kagema Kibui said the cooperation between the stakeholders have kept the institution in the map, attracting students with over 350 marks in their KCPE.
Kibui said this year they will be taking 62 students to various universities after they secured a mean grade of 6.671.
“ Despite the challenge of parents lacking school fees we have managed to ensure our learners excel and compete with those in the national and county schools,” said Kibui.
At Mukangu secondary school a member of the board of management Mr Harrison Githongo Macharia said despite the challenge of congestion they have managed to get a mean grade of 5.616.
“This year we shall be taking 41 students to pursue different courses at the universities, as the school board was looking for resources to expand to accommodate more learners,” said Macharia.
In Muthithi secondary school that attracts learners from the nearby Maragua and Sabasaba towns.
It has been competing with Karega and Njiiri boys in sending the students to the higher institutions of learning.
The principal Mr Gaita Ndiritu said they registered a mean of 5.7362, where 51 students will proceed to the university.
“The school has a tradition for cooperation between the stakeholders aiming at success,” said Ndiritu.
Murang’a County Director of Education Ms Annie Kiilu said the schools have added value as some of the achievers were enrolled with low marks.
“ The communities have supported the schools leading to some of the learners walking long distances in search of education,” said Kiilu.
