A
road project that started 27 years ago at the height of political battles
between the late John Michuki and the late Joseph Kamotho will be completed in the next three months.
The project at 92 percent complete with Nyoro
Road Construction Company ordered by Murang’a County Development Implementation
Committee ordered the project must be completed by December 31.
Mathioya
river bridge was last month opened with fanfares, saving the motorists the agony of using a narrow bridge that was constructed 60 years ago.
The
committee chaired by Murang’a County Commissioner Mohammed Barre called on the
removal of sand harvesters working near the bridge.
Barre said the people in the sand harvesting business
should be at least 100 metres away for the bridge.
“As
the constructor is doing the final touches he should ensure the sand harvesters
are away from the facility not to
compromise its strength,” said the
county administrator.
Kenya Rural Roads Authority (Kerra) Murang’a manager Eng Joseph Wanjohi said
the constructor has done commendable work but will seal some of the
weak lines that have emerged.
The project, he told the committee that
included Mr Jerald Buoga from PDU that
it was 92percent complete.
“The contractor has done a lot despite
the completion delay but we as following to ensure the minor issues that have
emerged along the road are corrected within the provided time frame,” said
Wanjohi.
