Protest on plans to convert a water supply facility to a sewer plant in Murang’a

Controversy has emerged on construction of a sewerage treatment
plant next to Saba Saba river.

The Sh11 million project by Murang’a South Water and
Sanitation Company (Muswasco) has met strong opposition over claims it will
pollute the only water source for most of the residents.

The river flows through Kamahuha and Kambiti wards in
Maragua constituency before it joins River Tana in  Eastern region.

In the design seen by The Mountain Journal there are chambers,
that will hold waste water  that will be
transported from Maragua town  by exhausters
for  treatment before drained into the
river.

Maragua MP Mary Wamaua has protested over the decision to convert
Saba Saba Water Treatment plant to a sewerage facility for Maragua town and its
environs.

 “ The project is not
acceptable as there was no public participation
to educate the locals,” she said.
