Central Kenya has managed to collect 643,889
signatures to support Building Bridges Initiative back constitutional reform
process.
The Mountain Journal learned that in the
collection of signatures Kiambu county led with 181,744, followed by Murang’a
that garnered 166,390, Kirinyaga 116,513.
Counties of Nyandarua and Nyeri posted 78,932
and 100,310 respectively.
BBI signatures contributing to a total of
643,889 signatures collected in Central region.
During the handing over of the signatures from
the counties to the regional BBI Coordinator
Peter Weru, Governors’ Mumbi Waiguru( Kirinyaga) Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri) and Francis
Kimemia (Nyandarua) attended. Weru is
the former Mathira MP.
Waiguru during the function asked Kenyans to support
the initiative saying that it is going to unite them and ensure inclusivity.
The Kirinyaga governor said that the
number of those who endorsed the initiative has exceeded the target, an indication that Mt. Kenya Region was fully behind the direction that President
Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The region is in support of the
President and BBI process because it translates to additional representation,
more resources for us and guarantees us a sit in the national political
leadership moving forward” she said.
ICT Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe
Mucheru noted that the BBI recommendations will transform the country and bring
to end impunity and marginalization.
