Rural centres set for transformation
By The Mountain Journal Crew
The transformation of once-neglected
market centres in Laikipia county is designed to accelerate growth by
attracting more investors.
The Smart Towns concept initiated by
Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has led to the transformation of the old market
centres with an influx of investors scouting to establish business enterprises.
Igwamiti , Winyumirire are among the centres in Laikipia that the Governor’s administration has concentrated to
uplift the residents’ living standards through improving the road networks.
Peter Thoithi a resident of the
market said the transformation aspect has impacted the locals positively thus
more investors seeking opportunities.
“The function of the government is
to create an enabling business environment for the residents. In the past it
was hell working in some of the rural markets centres and the county government
through Muriithi has demonstrated the desire to bring change,” said Thoithi.
County secretary Mr Karanja Njora
said the smart town programme will accelerate the business activities in the
county.
“ There is a road map that the
governor has initiated and which must be achieved in the shortest time possible
regarding the upgrading of the market centres,” said Njora.
