Counties asked to enhance local revenue collection

In Mt Kenya region the best counties in local revenue
collection  are Laikipia, Kiambu and
Nyandarua, says CRA

Commission of Revenue Allocation has identified 15 counties
to have improved their revenue allocations .

The counties are Laikipia, Embu, Garissa,  Tana River West Pokot,  Lamu, Kirinyaga, Mombasa and Nandi, Kiambu.

Others are Elgeyo Marakwet, Taita Taveta, Marsabit
Makueni,  Kakamega, Tharaka Nithi and
Nyandarua.

Speaking on the sidelines of Counties Own Source of Revenue
report launch in Nairobi, CRA commissioner Dr Irene Koech also noted a decline
in revenue collection in Busia, Wajir, Homa Bay and Mandera counties.

County government’s main own-source revenue streams are
business permits, property-related revenue and vehicle parking fees,” she says.

A research by the commission revealed that 41 counties are
raising less than 40 per cent of their estimated revenue potential.

 Six counties, the
study exposed  collect between 50 and 88
per cent of their estimated revenue potential.
