Kirinyaga Council of Elders says it will vet all candidates seeking the
gubernatorial position in the county during the 2022 elections.

The council says that those seeking to be the governor of the county
must have a demonstrated development track record and a clear vision on how to
steer the county to greater heights.

Speaking after meeting Governor Anne Waiguru, the council chairman Dr.
Cyrus Githaka said the seat has attracted lot of candidates and therefore the need
to get the best among them.

Others interested in the slot are Waiguru Deputy Peter Ndambiri, the  former governor Joseph Ndathi  former Mwea MP Peter Gitau.

Githaka said some of the people who have shown interest have nothing to
show in terms of development track record.

He asked residents not to be swayed by money while deciding on who to
vote for but instead vote for leaders who are development conscious.

The chairman said governor Waiguru’s development record stand out among
those seeking to unseat her and therefore voters must weigh their options well.

“We have seen the work that governor Waiguru has done for Kirinyaga, her
development record stands out for everyone to see and therefore we want to make
sure people make decision based on the candidate’s track record,” he said.

Citing various development projects initiated by Waiguru among them the
Kerugoya Medical Complex, cabro paving of all major towns, tarmacking of roads,
supply of water and start of several agriculture value chain projects among
them poultry, pig, fish, tomato farming among other, the chairman said the
county has witnessed development it has never seen since independence.

Githaka said it will invite all
those seeking to become governor for vetting and once it’s done, it will
endorse the best among them.
