Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has stirred controversy on a proposal to review the school calendar to allow two half term breaks in the second term in a way to reduce unrest related to the students.
The MP said the Ministry concerned should consider introducing the two holiday breaks followed by a visiting day in efforts to reduce the pressure impacted on the students’ that lead to the unrest.
Speaking at Maragi Senior School during Kiharu Masomo Bora Students Career Fair said chest thumping by the state officers and instead work on ways to deal with the unrest that has affected the national schools.
“ Stop chest thumping and instead look for ways to investigate why unrest always occurs in the second term and seek advice from the experts,” said the MP.
He spoke after the Education Principal Secretary Dr Julius Bitok ruled out the early closure of the schools for the half term break, despite the increased unrest across the country.
At the same time, he accused the government over the appetite of seeking external debts at the rate of Sh 4 billion daily, saying the trend will affect the coming governments as they will shun development and plough all the resources in repaying debts.
He regretted that the Housing Levy will be pegged to guarantee more loans to the country.
“ The use of house levy as a guarantee to acquire more loans from international lenders was yet to be approved by parliament thus an impunity,” said the MP.
He regretted that some offices have been added more money to a tune of Sh 100 billion, instead of directing the same to the education and other crucial departments.
“ The purpose of allocating more money to high offices for the interest of next year’s campaign should come to an end and ensure the resources directed to help improve education of the country,” said the MP.
