The Democratic Party of Kenya has cautioned the Government against making inflammatory remarks about foreign nationals operating businesses in the country, saying such statements could undermine investor confidence and strain Kenya’s international relations.
DP national chairman Peter Ndubai said remarks by some political leaders targeting foreign businesspeople were creating unnecessary anxiety within the diplomatic and investment communities.
Ndubai said the Government must address the growing challenge of youth unemployment but should focus on policies capable of expanding economic opportunities instead of rhetoric that could have unintended economic and diplomatic consequences.
He proposed greater investment in skills development, incentives for businesses and consistent enforcement of existing laws as part of efforts to create jobs for young Kenyans.
“Kenyans are already undergoing significant economic hardships as a result of poor policies and governance decisions by the Government of Kenya,” Ndubai said.
He noted that many Kenyans live, work and conduct business abroad, arguing that Kenya should protect its citizens overseas while respecting foreign nationals who lawfully live, work and invest in the country.
Ndubai called for dialogue involving the Government, diplomatic representatives and the business community to find a balanced approach to unemployment without damaging Kenya’s reputation as an investment destination.
The DP chairman also condemned reported attacks by criminal groups on people participating in opposition political activities, saying citizens should be free to exercise their constitutional rights without intimidation.
He challenged security agencies to investigate the incidents and prosecute those found responsible regardless of their political connections.
“Political differences must never be settled through violence,” he said, warning political parties against using hired groups to intimidate or attack their opponents.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, Ndubai urged political leaders to embrace dialogue, tolerance and peaceful competition.
He said the DP was meanwhile strengthening its grassroots structures through membership recruitment, mobilisation and publicity campaigns across the country.
The party is also evaluating prospective candidates for elective positions as it prepares to offer what Ndubai described as a democratic alternative founded on unity, peace, accountability, good governance and effective public service.
He said the DP would give priority to qualified young people, women and professionals with integrity and the capacity to serve.
Ndubai further called for comprehensive reforms in the healthcare sector to address recurring disputes involving health workers, particularly nurses.
He said the Government should move away from temporary interventions and crisis negotiations and establish a lasting framework covering remuneration, staffing, working conditions, career progression, equipment, medicines and implementation of agreements with health workers.
He warned that failure to address the underlying challenges could trigger repeated strikes and disrupt essential medical services.
“Kenya needs lasting solutions—not temporary fixes,” he said.
