The Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) has assured  citizens that it will not censor the freedom of expression during the electioneering period.

CAK Chairman Charles Karondo said unlike some neighbouring nations of Uganda and Tanzania that shut down internet connectivity, Kenyans will freely  enjoy connectivity within the framework of the law during the election period.

He observed that the authority has started multi-agency with state agencies, to hold Kenyans accountable and responsible for the postings made through online.

“ We have engaged with the  National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), to monitor the posting  and ensure Kenyans are accountable in all forms of communication,” said Karondo.

He spoke in Marewa village in Kiharu  during the official opening of a house he built for his neighbour in a function attended by Mbeere North MP Leo Wamuthende, the Deputy State House Comptroller Simon Gikuru and JCM Bishop  Benson Gathungu.

Karondo expressed concerns on misinformation and incitement  happening online, stressing that the authority has no intention  to restrict  the democratic space in the  communication.

“We have no intention of taking such action because Kenya is democratic,  and we are not here to block the freedom of speech to any Kenyan,” Karondo said.

Karondo emphasised that while the authority is keen to guard against misinformation, its role is not to suppress voices.

“Kenya’s approach will differ, aiming to balance free communication with responsible information sharing” said the CAK Official.

Muthenge and Gikuru campaigned to  President William Ruto pleading  with Murang’a people to join others in re-electing  him for the second term.

Gikuru said the majority of voters across the country were in support of Ruto for the second term.

“Ruto has increased support in Western, Northern and Coast parts of Kenya  who are speaking candidly that they will; vote  for him,” said Gikuru.

Muthende  said  the Kenya Kwanza Government has done a lot for the country through construction of markets among other infrastructures  to ease the livelihood of the business people.
