Political situation in Murang’a has taken a new dimension with former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau declaring to run on Jubilee Party ticket.
The disclosure of the party sent gubernatorial aspirants and their supporters in a panic mood after he brought to an end rumours that were circulating he will vie on an independent platform.
He declared at Muthithi PCEA Hall at the end of the consultation on the party platform with his more than 10,000 supporters across the nine sub counties.
“I hereby declare that today I will contest Murang’a Gubernatorial seat in the Jubilee Party with confidence of winning it as out of all the candidates have the best manifesto and understanding of the people and their needs,” said Kamau as he urged the people to engage in peaceful campaigns.
The education endowment programme, he said, assists many of the students majority who are responsible persons in the community and working for the interest of others through uplifting them.
Insiders revealed of the agony the leadership in the county and below had after all the candidates aspiring for the position rejected the Jubilee Party.
“ It has been a concern of the allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta why none of the leaders had shown interest with the party that the majority used to clinch elective positions in the last election,” said an insider.
In the meeting, those who attended from his Kigumo constituency backyard recounted how during his term as MP initiated Kigumo endowment programme that assisted tens of students from humble backyard to remain in school.
Patrick Muiruri from Kahumbu said Kamau remained a friendly person to all as he was concerned about the social and economic situation of the people.
“ When other MPs moved to initiate the programme through Economic Stimulus Package (ESP), Kamau consulted the community on the need for Kigumo Girls High School,” said Muiruri as he drummed up support for the gubernatorial aspirant.
Monica Mugure on her part said Kamau was better placed as he has been crisscrossing the villages in the county and have maintained friends.
Kamau, also a former Nairobi Metropolitan Minister, will face Dr Irungu Kang’ata( UDA), former Water and Irrigation PS Wairagu wa Maii( DP), Irungu Nyakera( Farmers Party),former Kandara MP Joshua Toro( PNU) and Dr Moses Mwangi.
