Women are the drivers of change, best at multitasking as caregivers of their families but also key drivers of grassroots agricultural productivity and enterprise growth.
The Government’s transformation of the agricultural sector through subsidized fertilizer and certified seeds is beneficial to women who form the majority of the farmer folk of our Country.
The same can be said of the Government support to rural enterprises through construction of fresh produce markets and support to nano, micro, small and medium scale enterprises many of them being women run.
As we expand the economy to create jobs, we are empowering families and communities for the benefit of the men and women, who as parents want a Country that provides more opportunities to their children.
In Laikipia County, women farmers and women-led rural enterprises are benefiting from improved security in the areas that were hitherto teeming with marauding bandits, subsidized fertilizer, fresh produce markets being constructed in Nanyuki, Nyahururu, Ilipolei, Wiyumiririe, Kibaba, Posta, Kalali, Sipili and other places.
The nationwide Universal Health Insurance Scheme that has seen 242,000 residents of Laikipia County registered so far (out of the possible 590,000) and the ongoing last mile rural electrification projects within Laikipia County to connect 4,000 additional households and business premises at a cost of 720 million Kenya shillings will go a long way in supporting the livelihoods of women and families in the areas.
Met 1,500 grassroots women opinion leaders from Laikipia County, updated them on ongoing Government programmes within Laikipia County and urged them to remain steadfast in supporting positive values in society, guiding the youth and praying for the peace, stability and well-being of our Nation.
in Laikipia County he said had experined security challenges in the past, particularly when the Ruto Administration came into office with cases of banditry and cattle rustling rampant.
“This Administration deployed additional 360 National Police Reservists combined with our security forces and now Laikipia is enjoying relative peace with schools that had been closed reopened and normalcy restored,” said the deputy president.
He explained that there are remains of security concerns around the Mukogodo Forest, where the security agencies are working round the clock to ensure there is adequate security.
