The Saba Saba day demonstrations  left a trail of destruction in Murang’a, with four deaths, looting of two supermarkets.

Two patients were transferred to Kenyatta National Murang’a Level Five Hospitals, for specialised treatment, after they were shot on Monday.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata described the destruction as exorbitant, castigating the police  for the excessive use of power, as he also visited County Supermarket at Kabati witnessing the destruction caused by the looters after a violent break in.

When he visited the youth at Murang’a, Kangari and Githumu hospitals, he announced the waiver of all medical and morgue bills for victims of the protests in public health facilities.

At Murang’a, Kang’ata engaged the relatives of Kelvin Mwaniki, in the ICU,  who reported that the youth were demonstrating but they were expressing their anger in the escalating insecurity at Kangari market.

Henry Mbote, brother to Mwaniki, told Kang’ata that his 22 year old brother was demanding the arrest of criminals behind the theft of motorcycles in Kangari.

“ Governor, there is growing insecurity where a suspect associated with spate of theft of motor cycles is mysteriously released,” said Mbote.

Julius Muli Nduku,  recounted how his brother Peter Musyoki was shot and succumbed

Speaking while visiting victims in hospitals in Muranga, Kangari, Githumu, Kang’ata condemned police over the use of excessive force against demonstrators, saying they violated the constitutional right to peaceful demonstrations.

“ Listen  to the young as a way to end the anarchy that has led to destruction of property,” said the governor as he outlined that due the demonstration the county government also fell victim as  sign boards were uprooted and destroyed.

“ Kangari municipality main gate was stolen, and perimeter fences surrounding national government institutions were brought down,” said the governor who was accompanied by MCAs Grace City Nduta( Kanyenya ini), Liz Mbugua(Kinyona), Carol Njoroge( Kigumo), Samson Mukora( Kagundu ini) and Lisper Wambui( Kimorori/Wempa)
