The Nairobi County Health Committee has ordered the immediate closure of all Naivas Supermarket branches in the capital after discovering expired food products on sale.
The directive was issued on Wednesday, May 14, following an inspection at the Naivas Moi Avenue branch.
The committee claimed to have found yoghurt products lacking clear shelf-life labels on the shelves, raising serious food safety concerns .
The committee also said that many food handlers at the outlets had not undergone the required medical screenings or received health certifications
But the management of the supermarket clarified that no expired products have been found on their shelves, and no branches have been closed by authorities.
