New KPCU disburses Cherry fund to coffee farmers

 New KPCU has disbursed Sh46.3 million to coffee farmers in 13 counties.

 In a report, the organisation disbursed the cherry advanced revolving fund to 493 coffee farmers between October 14 and  October 21.

New KPCU Managing Director Timothy Mirugi says the kitty  will go along improving the coffee farming.

In the disbursement, Mirugi said Kabunyeria Farmers Cooperative in Nandi county received  the highest amount of Sh3,732,847  for its 194 growers.

“ The kitty was initiated to help the growers with money to support the farming activities as they await their payment after the sale of their produce,” said Mirugi.

New KPCU since inception of the cherry advance kitty in 2021, has disbursed in excess of Sh5.6 billion  to 409,870 growers in the counties.

 The MD adds that Nyeri is leading with disbursement of Sh850.1 million  to 77,796 growers, followed by Machakos with 695 million  for 52,945 growers.

Kericho has benefitted with Sh 576 million, Murang’a Sh503 million to 29,797  and 17,552 coffee farmers  respectively.     

 The counties that benefited with the Sh46.3 million kitty are  Baringo, Kisii, Embu, Migori County, Kericho, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Trans Nzoia, Nandi County, Machakos, Meru, and Nyeri.
