Kamau Wairuri Foundation (KWF)has moved to educate the youth of dangers of  drugs and alcoholism through engaging  them in sports and entrepreneurial activities.

In  the Kangema Soccer Tournament finals, Kangema Wazee FC beat rival Kangema United FC 5-4 goals and received awards and cash prizes of various amounts to clinch the top position in Muguru ward.

The tournaments started on September 29,  with eight soccer teams participated as following knockout,  Kangema wazee FC vs Colorado FC- 1:0,- Nyakahura FC  vs Kahiti FC – 3:2,- Kanorero FC vs Kiairathe FC – 2:1,- Kangema United FC  vs Rocks FC  – 10: 0

The semi finals played on October 6 attracted Kangema Wazee FC vs Nyakahura FC  and Kangema United FC vs Kanorero FC.

At the end of the tournament Kanorero FC emerged third and Nyakahura FC the fourth.

During the tournament hundreds of the youth from Muguru ward in Kangema constituency turned up in large numbers to cheer up their teams.

Dr Kamau speaking at General Kago Stadium in Kangema town, said it was pathetic that leaders had abandoned the core development programmes instead moved to concentrate on 2027 campaigns.

“ The leaders should not only focus on encouraging youths to avoid drugs and other substance abuse but also provide them with alternative activities.  Things like sports and creatives are some of the alternatives which Dr Kamau Wairuri is doing for the community,” said Dr Kamau.

He said the leaders should focus on development and focus on lowering the cost of living, instead of engaging in political debates.

Dr Kamau said many of the youth despite having potential in various fields were wallowing in alcoholism and drugs that need for people to come to their rescue.

“ It is a testimony that hundreds of the youth are wallowing in poverty due to lack of guidance. The guidance and mentorship will help our youth out of the mess and be productive,” said Dr Kamau.

In the soccer tournament  it was  observed that the majority of the youth are  talented, thus need to be exposed  to gain more experience and attain self confidence.

Kamau said he will work towards helping the youth to realise their potential to save them from indulging into anti social behaviuours.

James Kamori, a resident of Muguru said the gesture by Kamau Wairuri Foundation is appreciated saying hundreds of the youth have lost direction and require a mentor.

“ Dr Kamau  is among the few professionals  who is sponsoring the youth and engaging the youth directly discouraging them from indulging in alcoholism,” said Kamori.

Jane Waithera, a mother of three from Iyego, says there was a need for effective engagement between the professionals and youth.

“ Youth require mentorship  as there are many in the villages that need help to help them make decisions,” said Waithera.

Gerald Gaituri said before KWF tournament team captains  requested to be issued with balls and nets, the ones they’re using are worn out.

He said KWF leadership honored the plea and issued each team with a ball and two nets before the start of the tournament.

“In the semi finals, KWF thought it would be prudent for the teams to play with our branded kit. All the teams got a kit and added a ball to the finals. Each team ultimately got two balls,” said Gaituri.
