In a successful crackdown on illegal drug activities, police in Thika East have confiscated 59 kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately Ksh 500,000.

The operation took place at Maguguni village in Ngoliba ward, Kiambu County where the drugs, packed in half-kilogram sacks and concealed in suitcases, were found in a residential area, ready for transport to unspecified destinations.

The operation followed a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, which led to the arrest of one individual suspected of involvement in the drug trade.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of illicit substances.

Thika East police commander Mr Andrew Sora expressed gratitude towards the community for their cooperation, emphasizing the critical role public involvement plays in combating drug-related crimes.

“We thank the members of the public for closely working with us. We cannot win this fight alone; we shall not rest until we stop these illegal businesses,” Sora stated.

The seizure of the cannabis acts as a boost in the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle the proliferation of hard drugs and illicit brews that have negatively impacted local youth.
