Police have arrested three suspects behind a syndicate of theft of mobile phones and laptops in Nairobi as they investigated a last year’s incident that happened in Murang’a.

The trio were cornered by DCI following a break-in last year into a motor vehicle in Murang’a East Sub-County, where valuables were stolen, and at the time of the arrest, they were found in possession of 32 stolen mobile phones and a laptop.

The police, in their update, disclosed that they acted on intelligence before the detectives from Murang’a East Sub-County, working alongside their counterparts from DCI Central Nairobi, nabbed the suspects in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

The trio, identified as Michael Waweru, Wilson Wanjama and Samuel Kimani, are held at Murang’a Police Station.

They indicate the detectives are working towards establishing the origin, ownership and movement of the recovered devices and determining their possible connection to other theft cases.

“Recovered a MacBook Air, a Lightwave cash-counting machine, 22 assorted empty mobile-phone boxes bearing no IMEI numbers, two counter books, five small books, two notebooks and 12 receipt books, items believed to be linked to the handling, packaging and sale of illegally obtained mobile phones,” added the update.
