The government has facilitated modernization of Narumoru water
supply in Nyeri county.
The project by Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) located on
the slopes of Mt Kenya will supply water to residents in parts of Kieni
constituency and Lamuria area in Laikipia.
During the inspection of
the project Water and Irrigation Principal Secretary Joseph Wairagu accompanied by Kieni MP Kanini Kega said the government
will work towards increasing water supply to the residents in all parts of the
country.
“Water is essential the government has allocated billions of
shillings to the water sector to ensure
projects are funded for distribution of
the commodity to the locals,” said Wairagu.
Narumoro water supply project has been funded through the Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) to a tune of Sh138 million.
The project will serve 13,000 people through
2,016 water connections, located within a 16 kilometers radius.
The distribution of the
commodity has been extended to parts of Lamuria in lower Laikipia.
The areas served by the
project in five zones are Narumoru town, Isaako, Solio, Kandara, Ngutik and
Gatuanyaga.
The water company will
extend services to Rware, Ndiriti,
Waheire, Nyange and Baraka with an estimated 10,000 people when it gets
funding.
They later toured the Sh
28.3 million Njogu ini Gitero Kabati Earth
Dam that will provide 10,000 people.
The project at the edge of
Mt Kenya forest will serve locals within a radius of four kilometres radius.
