Disbursements of resources to constituencies should be based on
the number of residents captured during the National Population Census to
enhance equality.
Murang’a residents said equal allocation of Sh100
million to the areas of representation was discriminatory, as densely populated
constituencies are left with more responsibilities.
Led by Karanja Mburu Wamatangi of Kiharu, they said sharing
of resources to counties and constituencies should be based on population not
geographical areas.
Wamatangi said parliament should review allocation of funds
to the 290 constituencies, as Kiharu gets similar allocation with
Mathioya and Kangema which have 54,000 and 48,000 voters respectively.
He spoke at Murarandia secondary school when he launched
construction of a Sh1.2 million water tank for use by the community.
“One man one shilling formulae should be extended on NG CDF not
only to county governments. There is a lot of discrimination on
allocation of resources to CDF,” he said.
He appealed to the nine senate member mediation committee chaired
by Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar to speed up the deliberation to enable
release of resources to counties .
“We look on the committee to guide the process on release of the
funding to the counties as per the population as recommended in the BBI,” said
Wamatangi.
Last week, Mt Kenya MPs , Moses
Kuria(Gatundu South), Ndindi Nyoro( Kiharu), Rigathi Gachagua said majority of
the leaders were against
distribution of resources based on land mass.
Kuria said in the last
year allocation, five counties in Northern Kenya received Sh49 billion for than
700,000 population, while Kiambu with 1.1 million people got Sh9
billion.
