Kenya Tea
Development Agency (KTDA) has released Sh27.65 billion to grower affiliated to
its managed factories.
The payment
will be paid at the end of the month to more than 600,000 tea growers at the rate approved by directors, basing on performance in the last 12 months of between June last year and July.
In the year,
the agency has paid Sh 51.85 billion to the producers who delivered 1.45
billion kilogrammes of green leaf.
Last year the
factories processed 1.13 billion kilogrammes.
In the payment, farmers in Bomet will get Sh 6.42
billion,Embu Sh3 billion, Kericho Sh
4.94 billion, Kiambu Sh 4.92billion.
Those in Kirinyaga will share Sh 5.39 billion,
Kisii1.98 billion, Meru Sh 5.79 billion, and Murang’a Sh9.8 billion.
Nandi growers
will get Sh 1.11 billion Nyamira Sh3.40 billion , Nyeri Sh3.54 billion and Tharaka Nithi Sh 881 million.
In the counties of Trans Nzoia and Vihiga the growers are earmarked to get Sh
241 million and Sh430 million respectively. The release of the bonus comes when
the directors are at war with Ministry of Agriculture following the implementation
of the tea reforms.
last week, the agency released names of
the candidates who will go to the polls for the directorship despite opposition
of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
