Leaders plead for BBI document

Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi has urged the
youth in his constituency to assist the aged on how they can access information
pertaining to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The MP said the youth can access the
report online and disseminate information in the report to the elderly.

Nduati a proponent of BBI asked the
locals to visit administration offices to get a copy.

“Since the document is available
online the youth are duty-bound to assist their parents to have access to the
information” said the MP.

He spoke at Mbugiti village Gatanga during the burial of Peter Muigai Karanja who was a trader at Gatura market.

The late Karanja
was a businessman at Gatura market and among the founders of Kariara
Development Association.

During the ceremony Gatundu South MP
Moses Kuria said it would be wise for the government to fast track release of
the document for distribution to the locals.

Kuria said it would be paramount for
the government to distribute the copies of the documents, ahead of collecting
signatures.

“For the people to make an informed decision there is a need for the residents to get a copy of the BBI document to
help pinpoint the burning issues,” said Kuria.

He said after he went through the document, he
found there were more than eight critical issues that require to be addressed
to reduce contest in the document.

“It would be good for the residents
in Mt Kenya to be allowed to air their views
and be included in the BBI, as those raised by pastoralists
communities” said Kuria.

Lawyer Edward Mureu on his part pleaded with
the government to help distribute the report to the locals to peruse.

“As a  lawyer for 27 years, I ask the government to
stop the collection of signatures, and let the locals have access to the document,”
said Mr Mureu.

MCAs Nahason Gachuhi and Jane Muigai
attended as they asked they also be supplied with the BBI report.

They said Murang’a County Assembly was yet to access the
report and members are eagerly waiting for it.
