Nanyuki New Market Traders get Sh 5 million kitty after the mysterious fire

Nanyuki New Market traders whose property were burnt a month ago got a boost after they received a Sh 5 million donation.

The donation to support the traders from the national government to traders through MPs Mwangi Kiunjuri and Jane Kagiri of Laikipia east and Laikipia respectively.

The kitty is designed  to support their recovery efforts after the midnight mysterious fire.

The two leaders addressing the traders  said the support from the National Government followed an appeal they made to President William Ruto on behalf of the traders after the month of May incident.

The Laikipia County Government after the incident dispersed Sh 1.5 million to the traders as it committed to rebuild the market.

They noted that the financial assistance is intended to help the affected traders rebuild their businesses, restore their sources of income, and begin the process of recovering from the losses caused by the fire.

The  leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the traders throughout the recovery process, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to restore normal business operations at the market.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to President Ruto and the government for responding swiftly to their plea, saying the funds would provide much-needed relief as they work to rebuild their livelihoods.

Kiunjuri said theNanyuki residents are conversant with the activities in the market thus the need to come back as it sustains hundreds of families.

ā€œ This is the parent where our parents do business. It would be prudent  for us as leaders to do everything possible  to fast track the return of the traders  to their places of work,ā€ said Kiunjuri.

 He added that the amount will ensure the traders have the much needed capital and resources to rebuild their lives and kickstart their businesses once again. 

The support comes as affected traders continue to count their losses following the market fire, with leaders expressing hope that the assistance will ease the burden on families and businesses impacted by the incident.
