KTDA managed factories in the weekly auction fetched Sh 1.56 billion after the sale of 4,374,475 kgs of tea during the weekly auction.
In the market, that 48 buyers participated, Mununga, Kiegoi, Rukuriri, Gathuthi, Imenti, Kimunye, Gacharage, Ngere, Kathangariri, and Githongo factories under KTDA fetched the impressive prices of between Sh 435.50 and Sh 393.90 per kg.
A report by the EATTA, stated that 91.67 percent of the offers were bought compared to 87.08 percent of the last week.
At the Mombasa Tea Auction, the report further divulged that Mununga netted Sh 45.7 million after the auction of 105,100kg, followed by Kiegoi Sh 18.3 million (43,728kgs), Rukuriri Sh 29.5 million (76, 535 kgs), Ngere Sh 96,7 Million (241,552kg).
Others were Kanyenya ini Sh 15.2 million ( 44,110kgs), and Ragati 20.9 million (58,268kgs).
“Seven factories offered over 100,000 kgs at the auction with Ngere leading with 234,752kgs,’ read part of the report.
KTDA Holding Chairman Enos Njeru said the tea growers have maintained high quality that have continued to interest the local and the foreign buyers.

“ The factory managements are under stern instruction to adhere to the policy guideline of the
tea quality to meet the expectation of the buyers,” said Njeru.
The report further stated that Kenya’s independent tea producers 2,867,876 auctioned, while Burundi offered 15,928 kgs, Rwanda 581,552kgs, and Uganda 930,138kgs.
In the buyers category, the leading companies were Global Tea 1,527,747, LAB International 881,405 kgs, Chai Trading 881,309kgs among others.
