Celebrations greeted Murang’a county following the disbursement of a bursary kitty  to support education of more than 50,000 needy students  in day secondary schools.

The disbursement of millions of shillings brings to an end the disruption of the school programmes,  while the learners are sent away due to lack of fees.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata speaking on Sunday at General Ihura Stadium detailed that his administration was working towards supporting the needy learners in day secondary schools.

Also to benefit  from the Inua Masomo Programme kitty are the students from day schools joining the universities after attaining C+ grade  and above.

Kang’ata explained that the bursary programme pays fees to 30 bright students  in a school per term, with plans to recruit more beneficiaries regularly to sustain its mission of making education accessible to all.

“The programme was initiated to facilitate education of the vulnerable students in day secondary schools, while encouraging excellence through rewards for top performers  through Nyota Zetu programme,” said Kang’ata.

The day secondary school heads celebrated the county bursary programme,  while castigating the Ministry of education for the continued delay to release capitation to end disruption of education programmes.

Inua Masomo Programme, he said, will enhance access to education and promoting academic excellence among students in day secondary schools.

“ The school fees for the top ten students in Forms two, three and four,  across all day secondary schools within the county is a responsibility of the county to enhance completion among the students,” said the Governor.

He explained that selecting top-performing students each term encourages continuous academic improvement, thus increase transition rates to higher education levels.

“ The initiative also promotes transparency in bursary allocation by eliminating vetting committees, ensuring that only deserving students benefit based on their academic performance,” he said.
