The coffee market posted better prices during the weekly auction.
On Tuesday, the market netted Sh942.1 million after the buyers bought 14,326 bags of coffee at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE).
Last week, the auction fetched Sh638.8 million after the sale of 9,886 bags of coffee.
Ten coffee brokers participated, where the 975 bags of grade AA and 5,741 bags of grade AB were bought at Sh461.5 million, by the local and the international buyers.
The market report stated that coffee brokered by the Alliance Berries Limited, Kirinyaga Slopes and New KPCU achieved better prices.
Kithima factory of Mitamboni society achieved the highest price of Sh65,009 per bag of grade AA.
Gachuiro factory achieved the second best price of Sh64,879, followed by Ichuga Sh 64,620, Kagongo Sh 64,102.50, Gachatha Sh64,491 for the grade AA, affiliated to the Alliance Berries Limited.
The NCE report reflected that in the coffee brokers category, Alliance Berries sold 4,759 bags for Sh316.5 million,Kirinyaga Slopes 2,550 bags (Sh 166.4 million), New KPCU 2,246bags (Sh 150.7 million),KCCE 1,037 bags ( Sh67.1 million),CEBBA 470 bags (Sh 30.4 million) among others.
In the buyers category, Ibero Kenya bought 4,245 bags for Sh277.5 million, Kenyacof 3,207 bags for Sh205.7 million,C.Dormans 2,834 bags for Sh 195.3 million, Taylor Winch 1,568 bags for Sh103.8 million among others.
Gatagua Coffee Society Chairman Nahason Chege said the prices achieved at the auction were impressive compared to the previous months.
“ As the coffee year 2024/2025 comes to an end on September 30, farmers should be advised to take advantage through presenting all the coffee in their stores,” said Chege.
