A Murang’a based politician Karanja Mburu Wamatangi has castigated the government  for introducing programmes that are unpopular with the residents.

He said the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) and SHA are among the state backed programmes that should be scrapped.

Speaking in Muchungucha area in Kiharu constituency when he handed over a permanent house to the family of Obadiah Kariuki, Wamatanga said the Affordable Housing  Programme ought to have been initiated in the villages if it was tailored to benefit the needy persons.

“The Kenya Kwanza Programmes of housing and health programmes are painful to the people thus they should be scrapped and replaced by other well researched outfits,” said Wamatangi on Sunday.

He added that forcing the employed Kenyans to finance the project through salary deduction remains uncalled for programmes.

“ If the government was sincere it should revert to NHIF as SHA is a major scam as millions of Kenyans are crying following poor services,” he said.

He added that if the AHP was initiated in the villages it could have helped many like Obadiah Kariuki who cried  seeking  for a decent shelter.

Charles Kamau a resident of Thenge ini village said Wamatangi action was remarkable as Kariuki over the years tried to build a brick house.

“He tried to build a brick house two times, after it collapsed before he retreated to a poorly done room, that leaked rain, that  he shared with his children and a grandchild,” said Kamau.

At the same time, the  philanthropist said, he has financed construction of more than 100 water tanks  in Kiharu, through an NGO namely  Can Do Kids.

“ We have also done 27 decent houses  for the poor after they are identified by the community,” said Wamatangi.
