The Japanese Government donated an ambulance to Kandara sub district hospital in efforts to support and improve safe motherhood.

Kandara MP Chege Njuguna said the Japanese government through Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) donated the ambulance  following his plea  to ensure the locals  have access to the health facilities when they are in need of treatment.

Chege addressing tea growers at Nduti tea factory during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in his constituency said the ambulance has been handed to Governor Irungu Kang’ata since health was a devolved function.

“I was forced to work day and night seeking  a development partner who will come to rescue the Kandara residents as an ambulance, and I knocked on the Japanese and pledged,” said the MP.

He sympathized with a family that lost a newborn, as there was no ambulance within reach.

“This is an issue that forced me to use all the means at disposal to ensure Kandara health centre  will have a standby ambulance like other facilities,” said the lawmaker.

Earlier in the year, Kandara health centre received medical equipment worth Sh230 million from JICA, which prompted celebrations in the constituency, as the sick used to be taken to Thika, Murang’a and Maragua  hospitals  for treatment.

“ I know the electorate are satisfied as the movement they used to make when taking their relatives  for treatment have been reduced as Kandara health centre has all the required equipment and an ambulance,” said Chege.
