Nineteen coffee buyers bought 16,862 bags of coffee at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) at the weekly auction.
The buyer spent Sh650.7 million from the sale of the produce delivered by nine coffee brokers led by Alliance Berries and Meru Union from the 784 cooperatives and estate farmers.
The factories that achieved the best prices are Maganjo of Rumukia cooperative society for Sh48,504 for each of 35 bags of AAG grade.
Other factories are Kanyari and Mweru affiliated to Alliance Berries Limited for Sh38,700 and Sh38,571 for their quality grades respectively.
NCE CEO Ms Lisper Ndung’u said nine coffee brokers led by Alliance Berries Limited participated in the market, as they delivered 12,574 bags of AA and AB grades that generated a total of Sh502.8 million.
The buyers, she said, are interested in the quality grades, thus the need for the growers to produce the best to attract the market.

The dealers are Taylor Winch who purchased 3,988 bags, Louis Dreyfus 3,873 bags, Ibero Kenya 3,458 bags. Other dealers were C-Dorman 1,857 bags, Jowam Coffee Traders 1,129 bags, and Kenyacoff 888 bags,” said Ms Ndung’u.
Cooperative Principal Secretary Mr Patrick Kilemi on his part said the ongoing reforms in the coffee industry are designed to streamline the sector.
Kilemi said the government was working towards supporting the farmers through the cherry advance fund to allow them access to cheaper credit facilities charged at three percent.
“ As the government we are particularly proud of the achievements of the NCE working committee and secretariat in implementing the Direct Settlement System (DSS) that in the last eight months remitted over Sh21 billion to the growers,” said the PS.
In the market, Alliance Berries Limited sold 4,714 bags of coffee for Sh180 million, Meru County Sh193 million for 4,765 bags, and New KPCU Sh 92 million for 2,502 bags.
