Macharia drove into the police station upon sensing he was being followed by a strange vehicle.
This is after he realised some strangers were following him, and had to drive to the police station to seek refuge, only to be abducted
His release followed pressure mounted by the journalists as the police cited the arrest as a mistaken identity as they were looking for Francis Gaitho.
A video captured as he was being bundled in a waiting vehicle circulated online and prompted public anger.
