The High Court has stopped tea farmers from holding special general meetings for Kimunye, Ndima, Thumaita  and Mununga tea factories in Kirinyaga county.

The order issued by Justice  Joe Omido followed a petition lodged by  Jane Nyaguthii Kinyua, and Frederick Kinyua and eight others moved to court lodging a suit against IEBC, KTDA, and Tea Board of Kenya  seeking orders to stop the Special General Meetings slated for July 18.

Through lawyer Ndegwa Njiru for the petitioners, 24 directors from the factories are listed as interested parties in the suit.

The petitioners told the court that the election conducted by the electoral body on June 29 was illegal as the commission was not constituted.

“That the 24 interested parties are at the verge of being sworn into office notwithstanding the fact that they were elected in a fraudulent process,” said the lawyer.

The matter will be mentioned on July 24.
