Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the fight against drugs and substance abuse should be effectively handled not to plunge the generations back to the era of drunkenness.
Gachagua expressed displeasure that in his Mathira backyard the closed liquor outlets have been re-opened under mysterious conditions.
Speaking in Kiamariga Church in Mathira Constituency in Nyeri county , Gachagua named Mathira MP Erick Wamumbi to have directed the police to have the liquor outlets opened without the knowledge of the executive.
“The local MP purporting to have orders from the above to have the bars opened is setting a bad practise,” said Gachagua as he directed Mathira East and West DCC and DCI officers to clarify if they have written instructions to have the bars open .
The DP expressed shock after came face to face with a group of young men sleeping in trenches early in the morning adding that no decision has been made by the cabinet to stop the war against the illicit brews.
He said one of the most important interventions made by the government of President William Ruto was stopping the illicit brews and substance abuse, whose outcome has been felt across the country.
“ You people at the Interior out to interfere with the war on illicit brews now you are effectively undermining the government of President Ruto and his administration.
He said there was a scheme to undermine him as he has been crusading against the illicit brews
He asked the President if he allowed the overzealous people at Harambee house to interfere with the war against illicit brews.
“If you are playing politics to open the closed bars you will be setting the President with his people,” said Gachagua.
At same time, Gachagua lauded Nyeri County leadership led by Governor Mutahi Kahiga and MCAs whom he asked not to allow the return of the illicit brews.
“ It’s shocking that some leaders were community sell outs as they have delinked with them from the Nyeri residents,” said Gachagua.
