The Nairobi Coffee Auction fetched low prices as the 23,930 bags of coffee were bought at Sh777.4 million.
The price offered by the 16 local and international buyers reflected a decrease from the previous auction that fetched Sh1.022 billion for the sale of 25,180 bags of coffee.
The coffee was collected from 990 cooperative and estates.
Tuesday’s sale attracted 16 local and international buyers, where Gakuyu ini factory achieved the highest price of Sh47,256 per bag of AA bought by Rockberns sold by the Alliance Berries Limited to Rockbern.
Wanjengi factory affiliated to Kahuhia cooperative society in Murang’a county fetched the second best price of Sh46,992 per bag of AA bought by Diamond Coffee also marketed by the Alliance Berries Limited.
Last week, Konyu and Iyego emerged the highest paid after they made Sh54,540 and Sh50,895 respectively per 50 kilogramme bag. They presented 132 bags of AA grades at the auction
Nairobi Coffee Exchange CEO Lisper Ndung’u said nine marketing agents participated in the market delivering 14,779 bags of AA and AB grades.
The Alliance Berries Limited, she said, delivered 6,178 bags of coffee that were bought at Sh.216.2 million, and Kirinyaga Slopes fetched Sh188.7 million for 6,163 bags. NKPCU managed Sh164 million after selling 4,857 bags.
“In the auction, Ibero Kenya led the pack as it bought 5,658 bags, followed by Taylor Winch 4,712bags, Kenyacof 4,121 bags, C.Dorman 3,266 bags, Louis Dreyfus 3,008 bags,” said the CEO.
Sasini Kenya a week after it stopped coffee milling to concentrate on buying coffee took 930 bags and Diamond Coffee 770 bags.
“We are calling on the farmers to embrace the auction platform as it is guided by regulations and trading calls be monitored online,” said Ms Ndung’u.
Other marketing agents who included NKPCU got Sh164,051,345 for 4,857 bags, Minnesota Sh51,358,010 for 1,599 bags, Murang’a County fetched Sh12,678,800 for 383 bags, Kipkelion Sh830,187 for 36 bag, Kinya managed 803 bags that raised Sh 22,294,216.
Kiambu Coffee from the sale made Sh62,183,771 for 2,098 bags and KCCE Sh 62.1 million for the sale of 2,098 bags.
