Smart city programmes transforming the market centres

The small market centres are reaping benefits from the smart city programme, eying to transform the business ventures.
The Governor Irungu Kang’ata initiative has opened several market centres within the sub-counties exposing them to potential despite their locations.
There is a celebration at Mukuyu market as the contractor awarded the smart cities programme works penetrated in the centre working on the roads, and drainage system in line with the governor’s vision.
Josephine Njambi Mbugua a fruit vendor says in the past 15 years, Mukuyu market despite its high potential had been ignored leading to tens of potholes.

Njambi says in the past calls for the improvement of road networks were ignored by those entrusted to handle public affairs.
“ The residents in Mukuyu are to reap benefits from the assignments being done by the Murang’a county government, which include tarmacking of the roads among other projects,” said Njambi.
Governor Kang’ata while launching the smart cities pogramme, said it was a relief to many shopping centres, which will cure the challenges, the traders have been going through for decades.
The county government, the governor said was working towards opening the market centres to attract more customers.
“ Tarmacking despite being an expensive venture the county government is working towards ensuring all areas will be opened to attract more investors,” said the governor.

John Ndolo a a trader said it was embrassing that Mukuyu despite millions of shillings paid to the county government monthly had been ignored.
“ It is only Mukuyu market where potholes featured most at the entrance and exist. It is worth noting that Kang’ata in a short time has honour the pledge he made to the traders during his campaigns,” said Ndolo.
